The close-knit community of Parker, Colorado was incorporated in 1981 with a total of 285 residents. Since then, the town’s population has increased to more than 45,000 residents. Similar to Castle Rock, Parker is one of the faster growing communities in Douglas County, Colorado and has been able to retain its small-town character despite its rapid growth.

Though Parker started out a tiny farm town, it has grown into a small suburb with all the comforts that come with being close to Denver. Located in Douglas County, one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, the city is constantly developing and thriving without losing its small-town atmosphere. It was recently ranked #26 as one of the Best Places to Live in the country by the CNN/Money magazine.
The Parker Recreation Department provides plenty of activities and events for families. The Parker Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Parker Country Festival, an annual event around the Fourth of July weekend. Over 100,000 people from around the Denver area attend the three day festival. In downtown Parker there is the H2O’Brien pool, an outdoor pool and water park for families. And throughout the summer there are multiple community events, including the Let Freedom Sing event on July 4, and Family Movies in the Park, a fun event where families can enjoy movies and food together.
Events and activities are not the only highlights of Parker. The city is also known for having quiet and peaceful neighborhoods with a low crime rate. Since many houses are located close to the abundant wildlife including deer, foxes, and the occasional coyote.
The city of Parker is only a short drive away from Denver making it easy to access Denver area events. It is also located close to many employment centers and office parks such as Meridian, Inverness, and the Denver Tech Center. Since Parker is located in Douglas County, students can attend schools from the renowned Douglas County School District, one of the highest ranking districts in the country. Over 90% of students attending these high schools receive their diplomas.
For those that enjoy the outdoors there are many activities to participate in. Over 200 acres in the city is developed park land and 700 acres is open land. There are two areas for the equestrian community: the privately-owned Colorado Horse Park and the city-owned Salisbury Equestrian Park. Also, there are several private and public golf courses, such as Pradera, The Pinery, and Canterberry’s Black Bear, which have houses located on the course. The newest is Colorado Golf Club just south of Parker which will be hosting the 2010 Senior PGA Championship.
Voted as one of the top ten places to move in the country by Forbes Magazine, the city of Parker is a fast growing, friendly community. With its beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains and vast array of activities and community events it is a wonderful place for new families.
